SOMERVILLE, Mass. — August 2026 — HKG Energy Inc., a battery technology startup developing Terra Silicon™, has been awarded a $350,000 demonstration grant through the InnovateMass program, administered by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC). The grant will fund a structured demonstration project to validate Terra Silicon™ in real-world conditions and advance the technology toward commercial deployment.

 

A journey built on sustained support

This award marks the second consecutive grant HKG Energy has received from MassCEC. In 2025, the company was selected for the $75,000 USD MassCEC Catalyst grant, recognising HKG Energy's potential as an early-stage cleantech startup.

 

The InnovateMass grant represents a significant step forward, both in funding scale and in the nature of the work it enables. Where the DICES grant supported early commercialisation groundwork, InnovateMass is specifically designed to fund demonstration projects: taking a technology out of the laboratory and proving it in a deployment-ready setting. Receiving support at both stages reflects a continued confidence from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in HKG Energy's technology, team, and trajectory.

 

About Terra Silicon™

Terra Silicon™ is HKG Energy's advanced silicon-based anode material, developed to address critical limitations in lithium-ion battery performance. While the industry standard sits at under 5% silicon content, Terra Silicon™ achieves up to 70%, enabling a step-change in performance metrics.

Validated results to date include cell energy density above 350 Wh/kg, fast charge capability of sub-14 minutes, and an 80% improvement in battery performance at an estimated 40% reduction in cost compared to industry benchmarks. Terra Silicon anode platform is designed to integrate across a wide range of battery chemistries and applications, including electric vehicles, aviation, robotics, defence, and stationary energy storage.

 

What the InnovateMass grant enables

The demonstration project funded by this grant represents a pivotal milestone in HKG Energy's commercialisation roadmap. It will allow the company to validate Terra Silicon™ performance outside of controlled laboratory settings, generate data that supports customer qualification processes, and build the technical and operational foundation for scale-up.
